Maycee Jo’s Ponies

Our daughter Maycee Jo enjoys a wide range of horse related hobbies including youth rodeo, ranch rodeo and helping out on the ranch. Her pony Loretta Lynn has been a huge part of her childhood and one of the major stepping stones to creating her love for horses. Therefore, we have a soft spot in our hearts for that “special” kind of pony and we realize just how important a good pony is in creating a lifelong love for horses. Maycee is now 9 and though she is riding her big horses she still very much enjoys her ponies and works hard to bring some of the best, not to mention cutest, ponies out there to the market.

Virgil

A gentleman with a heart of gold!

16 yrs old ~ bay hackney x quarter pony gelding ~ 13.2hh
We call him Virgil, and Virgil is absolute gold. A 16 year old hackney cross pony gelding standing at 13.2 hands with the disposition and safety factor that every parent hopes they’ll find in their hunt for a good pony. Virgil is the definition of safe and reliable. In all aspects across the board he gets gold stars. Virgil is easy to catch whether stalled or pastured, well mannered to handle and care for and he is unwaveringly kind and gentle. Whether you plan to ride daily, once a month or anywhere in between he will be the same pony you caught the last time you swung a leg over him. No buck, no silly, no fuss, just easy. Rides bareback or saddled and he does neck rein! Virgil doesn’t care to go anywhere at a high rate of speed. He is the ease along type and prefers the slower gaits. He walks and trots with ease when asked and will lope with a little more asking however, if you’re on the hunt for a high speed games pony Virgil likely isn’t what you’re looking for. If you’re on the hunt for something safe, reliable, dependable and steady then you’ve found him! Trail riding, riding out on the ranch or in the arena are all places he is comfortable and well experienced with. Our daughter, who has just turned 9 as well as several of her friends ride him all over our pastures without a worry or thought about it. He easily rides away from the barn alone and never gives them a hint of trouble. They will spend hours riding bareback double through the pasture and woods. I would absolutely deem him safe for all ages and ability levels. The youngest child we have had ride him is 3 and the oldest is 11 and they range in ability level from very beginner to advanced. To sum Virgil up in one word is hard because there are so many great qualities about him, but I think it would be simply “reliable”. He is an easy keeper and is barefoot with great solid feet.
